Pizza Pizza

I love pizza and I'm not afraid to admit it! I would eat pizza every night if I could. In fact, there are some weeks when Josh and I actually do eat pizza way more than we should. But it is delicious and we can't help but be tempted.

In an effort to not deprive myself of pizza and to not turn into a pizza, I decided to get creative. I took the idea from the pizza bagel (also a long time favorite of mine), but tweaked it a little.

I used a whole wheat sandwich thin, a sparing amount of low fat sauce, 1% cheese, and a little bit of oregano. The whole thing hovers around 300 calories or so and totally satisfies my cravings. Pair it with a salad and you have a pretty balanced meal...well at least a lot more balanced than devouring some large deep dish, greasy, yummy pizza from the shop on the corner!

This is what I used for my pizza, but feel free to add actual veggies too!

Notice I made 3 samies. 1 for me and 2 for Josh (though I might have had some of his 2nd one..shhh!)

I could never skimp on cheese, but using fresh mozzarella would be good too!

These are so good I can almost taste them.

Being the pizza lover that I am, I was pretty impressed with this meal. It was quick, easy, tasted great, and was low cal. If I make one of these tasty treats every other time I crave pizza, I will definitely be on to something!

  2. It is so refreshing to finally start seeing recipes that are not soaked in a sugar syrup or dipped in chocolate! I too am a huge fan of pizza and love the healthy spin you pit on this one. Whole wheat english muffins make a pretty healthy crust too. Thanks for sharing!

  4. OOhhh!!! Thank you so much for this!!! My son recently became lactose intolerant, but if he can control the cheese he is OK. This would work! He loves those little bread rounds. Excellent idea!!
